2001 Clos du Marquis - Saint Julien, Bordeaux, France
2007 April - Dark garnet, saturated colour. There is a dense smell of red fruits with a whiff of toasted oak. 2001 Clos du Marquis develops well on the palate. Medium complex with hefty tannins but with a good back-up of sweet fruit. Solid and tight midpalate which develops well until the finish, marked to my view by a slight bitter aftertaste. It should be mentioned that the participants rated 2001 Clos du Marquis significantly higher than I did.

2002 Clos du Marquis : smooth fruit and light torrefied wood, liquorice and smokey notes. Elegant and balanced body, characterized by a beautiful sweetness of the fruit. Round tannins and freshness on the finish. A very nice 2002 Clos du Marquis, perhaps just lacking a bit of density. 86/100
