Tasting notes on Domaine de l'A - Cotes de Castillon

> 1999 Domaine de l'A - Cotes de Castillon, Bordeaux, France

60% Merlot / 25% Cabernet-Franc / 15% Cabernet-Sauvignon
1999 Domaine de l'A: clear ruby hue. The nose is a bit closed at the opening but widens gradually in the glass revealing spices and mint fragrances. Harmonious attack mainly dominated by pepper. Smooth and long finish. Because of the relative youth of the property's vines (20 years old on average), the wine lacks some concentration. Nevertheless with such a natural class, Domaine de l'A. will undoubtedly become one of the most promising estates of the decade! 88/100

> 2000 Domaine de l'A - Cotes de Castillon, Bordeaux, France

60% Merlot - 25% Cabernet Franc - 15% Cabernet Sauvignon
2000 Domaine de l'A : raspberry colour and lightish. On the nose, there is a subtle balance of red fruits and flowers for this 2000 Domaine de l'A. A hint of vanilla. In the mouth 2000 Domaine de l'A  is well balanced, the tannins are crisp and the fruit is fresh. A smooth Domaine de l'A showing lots of finesse and distinction, an almost feminine wine. 88/100

> 2001 Domaine de l'A - Cotes de Castillon, Bordeaux, France

2007 April - Luminous bright hue. Beautiful and intense nose dominated by blackcurrant, plum liquor and spices. Seductive juicy body with a very lush fruit. Tannins are a little drying out and somewhat restrain the finish. For sure, 2001 Domaine de l'A is a lovely wine but seems to be currently in a kind of ungrateful transition phase.

> 2004 Domaine de l'A - Cotes de Castillon, Bordeaux, France

07/2007 - As opposed to the 2005 and 2006 vintages, 2004 Domaine de l'A is more oaky and slightly below its usual standard, with hints of reduction (probably just an unpleasant temporary stage). The fruit has been well-extracted and there is considerable volume and length on the palate. Beautifully fresh on the aftertaste. It will take a few more months to be able to appreciate this wine's fruit and balance.
