First clicks of shears on red grapes. Rather capricious all
summer long, now the September weather has finally granted its
favour to winegrowers.
Clear blue sky in Pessac during more than about twenty days
enabled us to happily finalize the white harvest on Tuesday,
September 11th. The dry and hot weather also permitted the red grapes to reach their
optimum maturity.
On another day full of sunshine, a hundred of wine pickers started
cutting the young plants of merlot all over the estate.
After a four days break, we finally started to harvest the best merlots
of Château Haut-Brion on Tuesday September 18th.
Therefore, now these healthy and promising grapes, of great
maturity with a nice balance of sugar / acidity are filling both
the vats at Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission Haut-Brion.
August 28th 2007
The harvest of white grapes started in the early afternoon on August 28th
with the gathering of the Sauvignon blanc
grapes in a plot called "Pinson Sapinette".
This year we innovated with pickers passing along the rows of vines with blowers to
eliminate the morning dew and facilitate the handpicking of
absolutely dry bunches.
A group of about twenty pickers proceeded to harvest only the ripest bunches,
followed by a
meticulous and selective picking to eliminate any damaged
berries.
In summing up, the first results are promising with good
concentration and a potential alcoholic degree of more than 14°.
This is a good start for our 2007 harvest season!
